At the theatre

Group one and two from Pecs went to the theatre yesterday (26th January).

We watched “banyavaksag” (mine blindness) written by Csaba Szekely and directed by Laszlo Berczes. After doing some research I realised the play is the second part of a trilogy.  It takes place in a little Romanian village which is abandoned by the young generation and those  who stay face suicide or become alcoholics. The main plot is around corruption and hating foreigners. This small village is about to elect a new mayor. The present mayor gets a policeman to dig some dirt on the other candidate on the pretence of corruption. The arriving Romanian policeman who speaks in an amusing accent quickly finds his way around thanks to the power of palinka too. By the end of the play, not only did he find dirt on the new candidate he also finds much on the present mayor too. The two opponents unite as they do not intend to spend time in prison so they end up choosing to put the policeman under the ground.

In my opinion, apart from the humour the play was able to reflect the severity of the situation. What I enjoyed most were the many puns and the clever use of language. I wish to say thanks for the opportunity to see such a great play and I hope we will have the chance to see more of the same calibre.

On 26th January we saw the play Banyavaksag (mine blindness) in the chamber theatre in Pecs. The play is based on Hungarian-Romanian differences and tensions. The latter being Florin a policeman sent to solve a complicated case. The actor played the role professionally with much humour. He started his investigation in the hardly sober village which was on the request of the drunkard mayor. Later he realised that the only way to get the villagers to speak is to drink with them. Regardless of total intoxication many secrets surfaced which would result in the imprisonment of the mayor and his brother. Following a heated argument between the policeman and the mayor, the policeman meets a pocket knife and his end.
