Karikó 70!

A unique exhibition has opened at the Déryné 6 Gallery of the Jászság Community House. This exhibition is special not only because it celebrates the life of our Nobel Prize-winning supporter, Dr. Katalin Karikó, who turns 70 today—happy birthday to her!—but also because her roots in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County connect her to the location.

It is a great honor for our Foundation to host this exhibition, as Dr. Katalin Karikó has been supporting us for several years. She first became our supporter in 2022, enabling us to launch scientific projects for interested children at several of our Community Houses. At the 2023 Guidance Festival, Katalin joined us virtually from Philadelphia to greet the children. The projects funded by her support have already been published in two editions for our Foundation’s community, with a third installation coming soon!

At the exhibition opening, Nóra Pintér, a member of the Jászság 3 group, and Dr. Miklós Radoszáv, the operational director of the Csányi Foundation, welcomed the students of Lehel Vezér High School and other attendees. The exhibition was officially opened by Dr. Ilona Újszászi, a communications expert at the International and Public Relations Directorate of the University of Szeged.

A special guest, István Ábri, who was not only a neighbor of Dr. Katalin Karikó but has also shared a close friendship with her since childhood, shared his memories. His stories brought Dr. Karikó closer to everyone, presenting her not as an unapproachable figure but as someone relatable, making it easier for the students to connect with her.

At the opening, Berta Kispál, a 10th-grade student at Lehel Vezér High School, recited a poem (Ágnes Nemes Nagy: Istenről).

Visitors to the exhibition, curated by the University of Szeged, can admire Dr. Karikó’s university documents and some of her most fascinating science-related awards.

We extend our gratitude to Ilona Újszászi, the curator of the exhibition and communications expert of the University of Szeged, as well as to István Ábri for facilitating the transfer of the exhibition to Jászberény and for presenting the materials in an engaging session to the students of Lehel Vezér High School.

The exhibition will be open until February 17, 2025,
at the Csányi Foundation’s Jászság Community House (Jászberény, Déryné Street 6).
