A special theatre performance enriched all of us on March 17th in Kaposvár. I think that more children would love literature and become theatre-goers if there were more theatre events like this.
We had already experienced an enjoyable performance called Antigone, directed by Rusznyák Gábor. However, Oedipus was on stage this weekend. (I was particularly excited by this play because, not only is Mr Ruszkay’s directing uncommon, but we had had previous heated discussions concerning this particular piece of writing, notably on whether Polynices should have been buried or not).
The play was tremendous and, consequently, an impromptu drama lesson was organised. The evening’s events began at 9pm and lasted for approximately two hours. The participation of our teachers, Mrs. Tolnai Mária and Mr. Gombos Péter, contributed to making this event particularly special for me. They enthusiastically took part in the acting-out segments and joined every game. We worked in groups and improvised situations which had to end with sentences we were given; the sentences had been taken from the play we had just seen. This activity helped us to create a deeper understanding of the play. I have to confess that Mrs. Tolnai and Mr. Gombos were unbeatable in this game. We did not realise how fast the time was going and, even at the end, we were not tired at all. I think that more children would love literature and become theatre-goers if there were more theatre events like this, that is, drama mixed with games.
