On April 12, 2025, the Yellow Frog team participated in the finals of the national sustainability idea competition, “Green Code – Code for Tomorrow!”, held at the One Office Building in Budapest.
The goal of the competition, organized by the One Foundation, is to encourage digitally inclined and innovative students and their teachers to engage in creative projects in the fields of robotics, coding, and building a sustainable future.
Our project presented a system that uses Arduino-based sensors to measure soil moisture in cornfields. It analyzes the data and, if necessary, sends an SMS to the farmer and activates the irrigation system. The solar-powered mobile system is easy to deploy and would provide significant support to farmers during droughts, which are increasingly common due to global warming.
In the finals, we had to assemble and program our system on site using the Arduino kit provided at the event—this posed a serious technical challenge, but we found it an exciting task. Not only our team but others, too, faced tough challenges. In the end, we had three minutes to present our work to the jury and other teams.
The jury evaluated our idea from multiple perspectives, including the concept, the technology, and the presentation. During the award ceremony, Dr. Dávid Kiss, attorney and board member of the One Foundation, presented us with the second-place award. He commented that our innovation was not just a great idea, but a brilliant brand!
The competition was held in a fantastic atmosphere—organizers were friendly and helpful, and the teams got along very well. A special highlight was meeting Olympic champion Áron Szilágyi in person and having the chance to present our work to him.
The competition gave us not only professional insights but also an inspiring experience that we’ll remember for a long time. We are thrilled with our award and very thankful for the gifts!
During our preparation, we were supported by our volunteer developer, István Bugyi, who provided essential technical help in bringing our idea to life. We also consulted agricultural expert József Hábencius and later István Darázs, a family farmer from Jászberény, who gave us practical feedback.
At both the preparation and competition stages, we received help from our mentor Miklós Szegő from the One Foundation and Skool. We are deeply grateful for their support—we feel we learned so much from them!
