Music and literature: We went to a Beck & Grecsó concert

On Wednesday evening, group 1 gathered in the community house. Our program today was filled with culture and entertainment, which we started with a delicious gyros dinner. Then we went to the Tóth József Theater, where we watched a joint program by Zoltán Beck and Krisztián Grecsó. The two performers came to Szentes with the pre-premiere presentation of their new production.

Nationally renowned artists have in common that they are both tied to our region. Krisztián Grecsó is primarily known for his writing activities, but few people know that he was born and raised in Szegvár and went to high school in Csongrád. His parents and relatives still live in the village. In addition to his numerous novels, he is the author of theater plays and the columnist for Élet és Irodalom literature newspaper. Zoltán Beck is now an indispensable figure in Hungarian alternative music, the founder of the 30Y band. Those who know his songs know that he also lived here for a while in his teens: he started his high school years as a drama class student in Szentes, but then his life took big turns. He is not only involved in music, but also in the promotion of contemporary literature, and is also an associate professor at the University of Pécs. In their show, they brought sometimes humorous, but often deep and thought-provoking moments to the audience by combining literature and music. The more than one and a half hour performance talked about the simple beauties of life or aspects of love, as well as the importance of family and love in a person’s life. Most of us really liked it, even though not many of us knew the band. For example, we particularly liked the sound. The speeches and prose episodes helped us to empathize, and the enjoyable music really highlighted the performers. We also liked the humor, but especially the fact that they conveyed the messages expressively and authentically. In addition to the music they composed together, they also presented us with excerpts from novels and short stories. We are glad that we were able to get to know them on this meaningful evening. -Lotti Berkecz, Dóra Héri members of group 1
