Castles and palaces

The second day of our camp (30th June 2014) was spent by learning the historical events in connection with the Eszterházy family.

We visited one of the most famous symbol of Burgenland, Castle Frakno.
Castle Frakno belongs to family Eszterházy since the year 1626 and preserves their remarkable art collection. It was an unforgettable experience walking through the castle, thanks to the local guide who could keep us awake.
After we visited the castle we wondered curiously what the palace was going to be because we heard rumors about it during the morning.
During the walk in Castle Frakno we’ve learnt about the life, and fate of three of Eszterházy princesses, further expanding our knowledge on the family. On what life did they live, and how they fit in some of the political schemes. What were their characters’ memorable features? How did their everyday lives, celebrations, and family develop? These were some of the questions we got answered by visiting the castle and the palace. We had a really meaningful day. Thank you!:)
