From holiday to hiking boots

“On the first weekend of the new year, the groups of our Community House in Kaposvár took part in a traditional tour, starting from Kaposfüred and going in two rounds to the shores of Lake Deseda. On this occasion, the farmers of the vineyard in Kaposfüred welcomed the hikers with hot drinks and some food to toast the New Year and wished each other a happy New Year. This year, we joined the initiative, which we thought was a good one, as the entry fee for the charity trip was a bar of chocolate, which was donated by all participants to the residents of the mother and children’s homes. The weather was not deterred either, we set off in drizzle, but the clouds had cleared by the end of the walk and there was even a faint ray of sunshine. The shorter five-kilometre distance was covered by the younger runners; the longer ten kilometres by the older ones.” Dominik Antal summed up our experience.

This year, our group didn’t wait long to have our first hiking experience, as the big and small of our Community House in Kaposvár turned up for the 2024 Háromkirályok Tour. It wasn’t about the big challenge, long distances and wild landscapes, but it still got many of us out of the house before the end of the holidays. We were children, parents, friends, girlfriends, brothers and sisters together with many enthusiastic participants from the county. The opportunity for good conversation was almost a given, as the traditional outing, which has been going on for many years, has no secret purpose of building community. The organisers also did their best to improve the comfort level with delicious bread and butter, hot tea and mulled wine.

The latter was, of course, only consumed by adults, taking care to ensure that the measure was of value. For much of the easy ride, we swapped stories of summer camps and Life Journey Day. The event was a great way to start the year, a warm-up walk, and our Community Centre was revived from its festive calm in a very pleasant atmosphere. Last but not least, we considered it an important mission to promote the Csányi Foundation on this occasion, since this year our team in Kaposvár will be enlarged with the talented fourth-grade graduates who will prove their abilities at this year’s selection.

We tried to talk about this in an inspiring way to the local press, who, seeing our unity, came to us for a few questions. It is our common cause to demonstrate the importance of community and the power it can have.

“As always, the team covered the distance in a cheerful mood, and what showed even more that we were together was the “Csányi Foundation badge” on each one. Several people asked what this meant and how good it was to see that we were a united team. It worked out just right, as we were able to talk to the parents with children about the upcoming admission.”

After a relaxed warm-up tour, we are looking forward to the next more wild challenge. See the gallery for pictures of our charity hike.
