Science without limits – Vision

“The aim of the introductory session of our sub-project “Visual Space” is to sensitise students to the elements of scientific research and its application in everyday life. As a thought-provoker, we listened to Albert Szent-Györgyi’s views on human thinking and its limits, and interpreted them in relation to today. To make a symbolic interpretation of the possible boundaries of science, including the natural sciences, the students worked in pairs to draw the outlines of the back of their hands, the result of a particular interaction in space and time and with each other. Looking back in time, students in small groups worked on the lives and achievements of Nobel Prize-winning researchers, followed by a focus on a specific topic, the human nervous system and how to understand it. The topic was divided into two parts, covering the basic concepts and knowledge, and the biographies of three research doctors (Dr. Botond Roskai, Dr. András Csókay, Dr. István Ábrahám). The students worked in pairs on the basis of predefined criteria, which were differentiated according to their prior knowledge of skating sports. After processing the sources, the students’ insights were discussed in two groups, focusing on the limits of science. Our goal was for students to see the role of knowledge and humility in achieving success beyond learning about a segment of science.” Eszter Dénes,  Teacher
