Witches, vampires and Halloween pumpkins in Kaposvár

There was no shortage of excitement at the Kaposvár Community House on Saturday afternoon 29 October, as we organised a Halloween party for the K1 group. In the first half of the day, we had more serious topics, as in the morning Péter Kántor held a reading comprehension session for the group, but in the afternoon it was all about fun and games.

Some of the children dressed up as witches, some as dragons and even a warrior in the fancy company. The little-mentors were not far behind the fifth-graders, who also came up with some imaginative costumes.

The afternoon began with pumpkin carving. Of course, the little ones were not left to work unsupervised, since carving pumpkins is hard work, so the little mentors helped out. It was a joy to watch all ages working together on a sunny autumn afternoon in the beautiful garden of the community centre. The atmosphere was very good and, as you can see, everyone had a great time.

Afterwards, half the team painted pebbles, while the others jumped rope, played foosball or played air hockey in the basement. The Halloween quiz was a bit of a challenge for the youngsters’ brain cells, but most of the interesting and funny questions were answered correctly.

Before the candy hunt, the group was very excited, eager to explore the garden for chocolate and gumdrops. Most of the sweets were found quickly, but there were still a few pieces that the children found hard to spot. There was even time for dancing and free play at the end of the day.

It was a great party, but the best part was being together. Primary school children, high school students, university students, mentors and developers all had a great time. And being part of a community, all of us, is an experience that nothing else can replace.

“Of course, Halloween was also celebrated at the community centre in Kaposvár, where group K1 organised a programme together with some of the members of the group. Vampires and witches had fun together.  I also did my best to do Halloween make-up and the hair-dyeing salon opened in the afternoon. All the activities were in good spirits. I am glad that the two groups were able to get to know each other better and that we were able to spend an enjoyable afternoon together.”
