Career Orientation and Personality Development

In this weekend’s sessions of the SZ3 group’s career orientation project, the focus within personality development was on self-awareness and interpersonal understanding-facilitated through games, exercises, and discussions.

During the attunement phase, the experiences shared by the youth revealed-and this was a common sentiment among them—that the end of the semester had placed an increased demand on them at school. Thus, it became clear that school-like activities should be avoided, and more space should be given to the experience of collective play.

Games requiring cooperation, helping the group tune into one another, and providing a positive experience primarily through their humor, created a cheerful atmosphere within the walls of the community house.

Alongside the games, several rounds of guided discussions took place, where the students mobilized their intellectual energies quite seriously. They made important observations and inspired each other.

The combination of drama games and guided discussions contributed to me feeling, from a developmental perspective, that this session was very useful—and more importantly: the group members themselves spoke specifically and positively about it. Indeed, my sessions always include a “mandatory” closing reflection; they had to complete this sentence: “What I am taking away from today’s session is…” – and almost everyone highlighted, in one way or another, how important this “Csányi” community is to them and how good it feels to participate in shared activities with them.
