When I was submitted my application to working in a summer camp I did not believe what the company told us: summer like no other. I was working at Camp Lenox in Massachusetts for more than two months. It was kind of a sport camp with around 400 campers and 150 staff members. We had the opportunity to apply for different parts of working departments. I was working in the kitchen staff with 14 other people from all over the world. An average day we were supposed to work like 12 hours so I cannot say it was easy but all the people tried to do their bests therefore it was easy to complete our job early after each meal. We had to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner each day for the whole camp. During breaks we had the opportunity to do all the activities which camp offered. Personally, I made a closer relationship with the kids so sometimes I spent my free time with them. During camp, I had the chance to travel to Boston on one of my days off. We had one day off every week, when we were travelling somewhere or just resting at camp. I saw a lot of beautiful places and made true friends during this 3 months. One of my biggest goal was to practice English so I tried to be open-minded and listening them carefully. In my opinion it was totally effective and now I am much more confident when I should start talking in English.
Since I left the camp I have been talking to a lot of people who are still staying there and I believe it will not be finished soon. I learnt a lot about myself because I have never been so far from my home alone before. After camp, I was travelling for 2 weeks with my friends from Hungary. Our first destination was New York where we spent a whole week. We tried to visit the most popular places like: Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal, Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square and visited Brooklyn. My best experience is that we were watching the play, Bronx Tale in one of the most famous theatre on Broadway.
After New York, we had a flight to Las Vegas, where we stayed for 3 days. The next destination was the Horseshoe Bend, which was definitely my favourite. It was like a painting and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw it. We were renting a car and spent our last 3 days in Los Angeles. We took some pictures at the Hollywood sign, walking on the Walk of Fame and on the last day we were just laying on Venice Beach.
All in all, I offer to go to the US at least once in a lifetime for all the people who are adventurous, like travelling and most of all who want to make friendships for ever. Balogh Nikolett, Kaposvár 2, KRE 3rd year
