“AIESEC (Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales) is an international non-profit student organization that helps young people develop their skills. In 126 countries, with more than 27,000 members worldwide, it is working to implement the 17 UN-set SDGs (Sustainability Goals). In cooperation with partner organizations, AIESEC offers international exchange programs for young people aged 18-30 for voluntary or internship purposes. On May 28, some enthusiastic members of the organization invited those interested to a workshop called Make It Happen. The topics are: sustainable consumption and production. We were excited to check in, as we had the good fortune to meet foreign volunteers in our thematic camps, delegated by the organization, on several occasions. The discussion was attended by three groups from the Jászság Community House: J2, J3, J4, who told us what our community is doing to protect our planet, how to collect waste selectively, and how to protect its environment. ” Hábenciusné Balla Andrea
“Fortunately, at my school (which is an Eco-school) we have already touched on similar topics and thus I had knowledge of the topic that I think is essential these days. After all, the problem is present every day and we notice it. Did you know that if a person collects waste selectively, they do 45 minutes of “free work” in a year? Oh yes, I don’t think many people knew, but that’s why it’s good to go to programs like this to get to know as many of these things as possible. There was talk of unpackaged stores being opened in more and more places around the world, and one recently opened in Jászberény. This can be great for several reasons. For example, this way we produce less garbage and throw away less food because we really only buy what we need. 1.3 billion tons are thrown away in Hungary every year, which we admit a lot. In elementary school, one of my teachers told me the following lines, which really left a mark on me: “Act locally, think globally!” Do what you can and make the Earth better, a small lifestyle change can mean a lifetime. “On Friday afternoon, we were able to attend an AIESEC online chat where the main topic was sustainability. The AIESEC team tried to present the topic playfully. In the Kahoot race, our team took 3rd place. We then dissected additional topics in small groups. The main topic in our group was recycling, about which we got a lot of new information, but we also had good ideas on the topic. We are delighted to have been able to participate in the program as we have been enriched with a lot of new information on the subject and facilitated our rational thinking about sustainable consumption. ” Hégete Alexandra Jászság Group 2 and Domján Letícia
