“The goal of this great day is to teach young people how important nature conservation is. It is a tradition in the world, as we have remembered it for more than 100 years. In 1902, a Paris Convention was for the protection of birds, which was the antecedent to commemorate the first Day of Birds and Trees. It was first organized in Hungary by ornithologist István Chernel even this year. Based on a decree issued by the Minister of Religion and Public Education, Albert Apponyi, the day was already commemorated in elementary schools in a spirit of “nature conservation” and “moral enhancement.” In schools, teachers gave a lecture on the life of birds, the importance of nature in the household, on human farms, the importance of planting trees and contrasted this with the way a child grows and develops. It lost its significance in World War I, in World War II. It was almost forgotten during the years of World War II and state socialism, and this famous day was of lesser importance.
The Bible also writes, “Plant trees!”. The tree has taken center stage in the thinking of our beginnings in the strictest sense of the word. Forests, fields cannot be without birds. If we walk and are silent with a wide variety of bird sounds, we can distinguish bird songs. Birds can be colorful, simple in color, quiet, loud or noisy, but always in close harmony with nature and the trees. Birds provide protection and food for birds, as well as a nest and nesting place.
