On Saturday, September 7, 2024, Szeged Group 2 started the morning at Partfürdő, where they began their work at the Szeged Fishing and Hunting Picnic. Later in the afternoon, the youngest members from Szeged Group 1 also joined them at the event.
At our booth, we offered three activities for visitors. The main attraction was a fishing challenge, which consisted of two parts: first, participants could spend an hour fishing in a pool set up at Partfürdő, and afterward, they participated in a scavenger hunt spread across the event area. Those who successfully completed the fishing and fish identification tasks, and demonstrated their practical fishing skills, were rewarded with a scenic airship ride over Szeged.
In addition, visitors to the Foundation’s booth got a glimpse into our research project supported by Katalin Karikó. With the help of Szabolcs Turuczki, guests were able to create insect portraits, which they could print and take home as a souvenir.
We concluded the afternoon with the release of a special native Hungarian fish species, the kecsege (sterlet). In collaboration with members of the Herman Ottó Fishing Association’s Fishing Club, we released 350 sterlets into the Tisza River, helping to strengthen the local fish population. The released sterlets were tagged, allowing us to track their growth and migration.
At the end of this eventful day, the children had a great time, participating in many exciting activities. To crown the day, students and their families had the chance to taste dishes made from various fish and game. We were especially delighted that members of Szeged Group 1 and Group 2 had the opportunity to get to know each other in a family-friendly atmosphere.
