XXVIth World Jász Meeting

On the last weekend of June, the XXVIth World Jász Meeting was held in Jánoshida, with our founder – Dr. Sándor Csányi as the main patron. The Jászság 4 group was also represented at the three-day event, as I was born in Jánoshida and my parents still live there. I have many fond memories of the village along the Zagyva river, where I spent my childhood. The Premontrian church and the castle in the neighbourhood – with a history of more than 800 years – tell a lot to visitors. Thousands of people were able to learn about these stories at the World Meeting.

On Saturday morning, we attended the High Holy Mass of the Saxons, and then joined the parade of the Saxon settlements. Under the Jászberény sign we proudly lined up behind the mayor and notary of the town. We were happy to see one of our group members from Chania, Nóra Orosz, taking part as a scout, while another member, Sándor Görbe, was marching through the town in the uniform of the Jász Hussars. Afterwards, we visited the exhibition in the renovated castle, where we learned that if we visit the other exhibitions, we can collect seals for valuable prizes. So it was a no-brainer for us to visit all the sites, such as the model railway exhibition, where we could also make models, and the gallery, where we could view wonderful paintings by amateur artists from the Jura region.

The inauguration of the young captain was a truly uplifting event for the participants, which even included the sound of cannons. Despite the heat, we had a very enjoyable day, thanks to the organisers and my dear friends from Jánoshida. We bought a book on the history of Jánoshida, edited by local residents, and were able to take part in many enriching activities. Andrea Hábenciusné Balla mentor

“After lunch we hurried home, as a big rain cloud was approaching Jánoshida. I didn’t go home, but together with my group mate Maja and I headed for her home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maja, Aunt Niki and her family for their kind hospitality. Because of the rain, we arrived late but with renewed energy for the concerts. The music of the band Kelemen Kabátban was already playing. We listened to the music and then decided to have a look around the fairground. We liked a dragon roller coaster, so after a short discussion, the four of us got on it. It was very scary on the twists and turns, as it felt like you were going to fall off while riding it. Around nine o’clock we went back to the front of the stage, as another band was about to perform.

After a short wait, the Follow The Flow concert has finally started. The atmosphere was great, everyone was singing, partying, dancing and having a great time. The atmosphere was made even better when one of the singers jumped off the stage and touched the hands of the people in the front row. Then a few songs later, one of the singers came off the stage into the audience, right where we were standing. For the lucky ones, he touched their shoulders or hair. Then I froze, because I’d never had that before. Then came a beautiful series of fireworks. It was dazzlingly beautiful. Unfortunately, after that we headed home. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aunt Andi for all the experiences I had. Plus we had a surprise when we met the mayor of Jászdózsa and his wife before the parade. Since next year Jászdózsa will host the XXVIIth World Jász Meeting, I was asked to participate in the organisation of the event with several of my friends. I would like to thank in advance Aunt Kati, the community organiser, for her confidence in me.” Simon Ramóna Fruzsina Jászság Group 4
