Eureka!

As a closing event of the Science without Borders project, the team of the Pécs Community House organised a “Heuréka Project Day” on Saturday 13 May. The project aims to make science part of everyday life, as discoveries are part of everyday life. The foreign language groups tuned in to the great inventions with reading and listening comprehension tasks appropriate to their level. The aim of the day was to create posters and mind-maps of the patents, which were put on display for the groups to see everyone’s work. They presented their creations in English, German and Spanish in pairs and groups of three. Among other things, they talked about how their invention or innovation had changed the world, replaced something else, or simplified our everyday lives. In smaller groups they imagined what life would be like without, for example, the light bulb, the pen, plastic or paper money. To end the day, the children sat around 3 tables and discussed what they had learnt today. The project day was a fitting end to the foreign language development activities for the 2022/2023 school year.

This is how we saw it…

Today the little ones and the big ones were together again in the Community House in Pécs, where we held a Eureka Day. During the day we worked on different inventions in the foreign languages we have learned, English, German and Spanish. We warmed up in the morning with a light activity where we had to demonstrate the basics of our day, like light bulbs, Aspirin and fire. Afterwards, everyone read interesting articles and did exercises related to the topic, according to their language level. We clarified what patents really mean and discussed the tools we could not imagine our lives without. The children enjoyed the day, without exception, as they were able to express their creativity through presentations, posters, and luckily they always had a choice of what they wanted to do, so the atmosphere was great. Thank you to our language development teachers and mentors for a fantastic day! Antónia Polgár, Pécs Group 1
