We continued our historical tour in Felvidék, which is rich in natural resources.
resources. We visited the Dobsina ice caves. There are only a few all over the world and the Dobsina cave is almost untouched. The entrance of the cave is known for thousands of years. Ruffiny Jenő and his fellow explorers started to explore the cave in 1870 and it was open for the public next year in 1871. The cave was supplied with electricity for the first time in the world. There are two halls of the cave, a bigger and a smaller one. In the bigger one ice-skating was allowed, the smaller one was used as a concert hall thanks to its acoustics. The cave’s temperature is changeable. In winter, it is -5 and -7 degrees, in the summer it is around 0 degree. We spent half hour in the ice-cave, we watched the beautiful natural creatures and listened to our guide.
We had lunch after the tour. The Paradise of Felvidék is one of the most beautiful areas of the Carpathian basin. Two Hungarian architects dreamed the 142m2 area to be the centre of a touristic area. The entire tracking routs were selected with care and they are still popular today. Individual or organised tours can be taken in the area. We took a 5.2 kilometre long walk. We climbed trails in the cliffs, along Hernád stream and we went across some bridges. We agreed that this part was the best of our Felvidék tour.
