Year-end in the Delta

Yesterday, we concluded our school year. Over the past year, we engaged in many activities beyond the required ones. Among other things, we visited the nearby Duna-Dráva National Park to get a professional taste of nature conservation. After long preparations, planning, organizing, and coordinating, we set out to make birdhouses under the guidance of conservation ranger Róbert Glatz, with wood provided by Hárs Bt. No. 5.

We made “A” type birdhouses with a 2.5 cm diameter entrance hole, typically for blue tits, marsh tits, and coal tits.

The 7th-grade children (mainly the boys) nailed, drilled, helped with sawing, and then painted the finished products. After painting, we nailed oak roofs onto the birdhouses and attached wire hangers to them. Meanwhile, our university students prepared lunch on the grill, and the girls made salads from vegetables.

We completed 25 birdhouses (which will be placed in the urban area), then sat down at the table and had a delicious lunch. We said goodbye to Róbert Glatz as our usual end-of-year evaluation followed.

We thought a bit further about our pineapple award (given to the most motivated student in the group), which we established last year. We awarded the first three place winners with symbolic styrofoam pineapples (in gold, copper, and silver colors). How can motivation be measured? We believe it’s through active participation in programs. With the help of Zalán Győző, we scored every foundation participation, whether it was a developmental class, logic session, nature walk, photography, experiential painting, grant opportunity, academic average, etc. By the end of the year, the rankings were very close, but based on these criteria, our most motivated student for the 2023-24 school year was Fruzsina Horváth, who worked extremely hard for this title. We are proud of her and congratulate her!

We owe a great deal of thanks to Ádám Balogh, who, like all year long, honored us with his presence yesterday as well. Many new ideas came up during the day, which we will try to incorporate into our daily routines in the next semester.
