In the first week of September 2024, the school year began, and with it, the handball season kicked off as well. Thanks to Pick Szeged, we can once again cheer for the OTP Bank-Pick Szeged team, who generously donated 16 season tickets to our Foundation, just like last year. The team already played an early championship match against Gyöngyös, and we attended with our enthusiastic little group of supporters.
Before the match, the entire “handball family” stood up and applauded as the founder, Dr. Mihály Bérczy, performed the ceremonial first throw. This throw is his every year, and it was touching to see team captain Bence Bánhidi escort him and receive his pass. It was an unforgettable experience for the small group of Szentes supporters. We eagerly awaited the match’s outcome.
At the beginning of the game, the teams were neck and neck, but after a 3-3 tie, the OTP Bank-Pick Szeged players coordinated their efforts and pulled ahead with goals. The gap between the two teams widened. By halftime, the home team was leading by 10 goals, and Gyöngyös was unable to narrow the gap by the end of the game. The Szeged team confidently won 35-27.
We are returning supporters and look forward to the next opportunity to cheer loudly for the Pick team! Thank you for the opportunity!
