Thoughts on talent selection

I am often asked, what is like to work as a mentor… this time, I evaluate the situation and either I explain in details my work or with respect to time and the interrogator I answer briefly, starting with something like: “Well, it would take too much time to tell the whole story”

I could start the answer with the well-known open ended question from drama lessons: ‘The mentor for me is someone like…’ and words after words come the list of endless adjectives and metaphors that pop into my mind what it is like to be a mentor for myself. Being a mentor is what I have been dreaming of since my childhood, stand beside someone, help someone be a guide and a subject for someone at the same time and always find the equilibrium between the two, which role can help more, which one can love more…

Talent selection process started today when we meet beautiful and terrible faiths throughout the three days and we try to do our very best to make the right decision…

I can’t help it but captions of the past eight years keep rolling in front of my eyes when the frightened small faces behind their glasses tried to persuade us why they are the best ones to be here with us… I also can’t help it but bitter sweet memories of the past eight years come into my mind, which can be labelled as ‘Time we spent together…’ the responsibility, which is there all the time in our days for mentors, leaders, members of the Board of Trustees… and by this day, the frightened face behind the glasses is now a mature strong-minded adult ready for the school leaving exam, well… behind from their contact lenses they gaze the world…

Talent selection process is now on… one of the many many thoughts and feelings is that I am proud of my work and I am proud to be a mentor… I am humbly looking forward to this March weekend…
