Advent’s Concert

On December 17th, the Pécs Railway Concert Wind Orchestra held its annual Advent concert, which I had the opportunity to join in September of this year. Already at the first rehearsal, I found many familiar faces among my fellow musicians, several of whom have been prominent, active members of other orchestras for years. Our recent concert took place at the Szent Erzsébet Parish in the garden city, where the attendees were treated to an extremely diverse and colorful concert. Pieces included overtures from Verdi and Rossini operas, Bach’s “Bist du bei mir,” the theme from the Orient Express, Alfred Reed’s “Alleluia Laudamus Te,” known as the hymn of woodwind and percussion instruments, as well as Christmas songs such as “Dolce Sentire” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” performed by Csajághy Szabolcs and Sárközi Edina, singers from the Pécs National Theatre, respectively. It was a particular joy for me that so many people attended our performance; I can confidently say that there were no empty seats or benches in the church. Another joy for me was that my mentor, Csányis groupmates, and relatives came to listen to this concert, which was fantastic both inside and out. I am grateful to the Csányi Foundation for supporting my music studies for many years in the form of tuition and instruments. Without this support, I would not have been able to gain my knowledge and the conditions to be a part of this Sunday concert. Barkóczy Zsombor, Pécs Group 2.
