Today we visited the Gate of Knowledge in Szeged with Julie
This time we were welcomed in the chemistry lab where we experimented with metals.
During the second semester in schools the children learn about metallic elements. Unfortunately in schools and in the Community House it is not always easy to perform an experiment as the tools and different chemicals require special attention and need. In the Gate of Knowledge we are always welcomed. In the first round we reacted different metals with distilled water and we witnessed more and less violent reactions of the elements and we also saw the pH change of each chemical process. After water we used different acids on metals and checked hydrogen gas production with combustion. The most spectacular experiment was the flame test colouring. We finished experimenting with combustion in our hands and with the examination of mercury.
